Boomer Buddies

Showing off some of our favorites....

1. What is the name of your shop?
      S.A.M.'s Creations

- Handcrafted items for your home and almost everyone in
it!

2. What kind of items do you sell?
Mostly sewn/embroidered items - right now we have table runners, tissue box
covers, embroidered pillows, dog coats and even a bit of jewelry, but
everything is fabric-based - even the jewelry! We also have some wood
furniture for American Girl-type dolls that my husband makes. We are
constantly thinking of new and different items to make.

3. How long have you been engaged in your art/craft?
My mom has been doing this ever since I was little - she used to sew all of
our clothes when we were young. She has even made suits for me when I
started working in the corporate world. I've sewn off and on since high
school, but I've only started seriously about 4 years ago.

4. Do you consider yourself a hobbyist or a professional craftsperson?
Definitely a hobbyist!

5. What inspires you?
Not really sure - I think I'm easily inspired by the simplest things.
Sometimes I see a piece of fabric and wonder how I can use it. My mom
usually sees something and wonders how she could make it better or
differently. It always turns out great!

6. Please share with us what a typical day is like in your workshop or
studio?

Right now, my workroom is a spare bedroom. Fabric is all over the bed and I
have one table where I sew and cut on. Since I work full-time, I'm usually
creating whenever I can catch even a few minutes - even if it's just to pick
out the fabric I'm going to use for my next project. Right now, I'm getting
ready for 2 holiday craft shows, so I've got several items in progress. My
mom also does this part-time, but has a dedicated sewing room. She usually
only works on one project at a time. She's currently in the middle of a
beautiful holiday item - when it's done, I'm sure someone will snatch it up!

7. What keeps you company while you are working on a project?
Peace and quiet! My dog always wants to come in, but when I let him in, he
gets into too much mischief - so I usually have to kick him out.
8. What is your favorite 'task' related to your art/craft?
I actually have 2 favorite 'tasks' - first is when I'm embroidering and the
embroidery is complete - love to see how it looks. Then 2nd favorite is of
course, when I've finished a new item - always fun to see if it turns out as
I envisioned it.

9. What is your least favorite 'task' related to your art/craft?
Cutting and hand-finishing. Necessary evils in my book!

10. Would you care to share any 'words of wisdom' with other aspiring
artists or crafters?

Make what you like, not what you think others will like. I know that if I
don't really like what I'm making, then I won't be as meticulous or careful
about the process. If you like it, the finished product will show it and
someone will uttimately buy it! I really believe, there is a buyer for
everything!

11. Would you care to share some other information about yourself and/or
your shop that i have not asked about? Please tell us here.
Not really - I'm not really good about 'tooting my own horn', so this format
is really good for me.

your shop that i have not asked about? Please tell us here.

I am a Texan, through & through.  But I have spent the last year in middle Tn.  It is beautiful here, last fall was the first time I experienced fall colors!  The people are great.  But I will be going home soon. Yea!
I joined etsy in Jan.  It has been a good experience, though I have not had many sales. Everyone says it takes time, so I will be patient!

My buyers & other etsy contacts are so kind & welcoming!  I look forward to many new friends!
